Program: Administration
Title: Administrative Volunteer
Commitment: 8 hours/week, daytime, flexible schedule
Duration: TBD
Posting Date: May 7, 2012
Volunteer Date: As soon as possible

Responsibilities:

  • Helping with daily administrative tasks in the office including filing, processing outgoing mail, photocopying
  • Project work such as photocopying and assembling employee manuals, creating forms and certificates in MS Word and Excel, data entry
  • Organizing and tracking resource library
  • Other projects as they arise

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other professionals
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel with excellent computer skills
  • Must complete a Criminal Record Check and a Child Welfare Intervention Check upon acceptance of volunteer position
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality and respect for children and families at all times

Program: Administration
Title: Volunteer Writer/Journalist
Commitment: 2-4 hours bi-monthly (possibly more)
Duration: Ongoing
Posting Date: May 7, 2012
Volunteer Date: As soon as possible

Responsibilities:

  • As part of the communications team, you will be invited to research, interview and write articles and content for the Closer to Home website and newsletter. Duties include:
  •  Pitch story ideas to the communications team
  • Complete research for articles and provide sources
  • Write interview questions and conduct interviews for articles
  • Write articles for the web and for print
  • Ensure appropriate releases are obtained

Qualifications:

  • Passionate about writing and about Closer to Home’s mission
  • English, Journalism or Media students welcome
  • Good communications skills
  • Excellent writing and grammatical skills
  • Ability to work with deadlines
  • Previous volunteer experience is an asset
  • Must complete a Criminal Record Check and a Child Welfare Intervention Check upon acceptance of volunteer position
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality and respect for children and families at all times

Program: Foster Care
Title: Youth Mentor
Commitment: Once a week
Duration: Ongoing
Posting Date: May 1, 2012
Volunteer Date: ASAP

Responsibilities:

  • Spend time with a young child in the community assisting with learning important social skills, which will allow the youths to be more successful in their lives
  • Provide some assistance with elementary level math and reading

Qualifications:

  • A valid Alberta drivers license
  • Must complete a Criminal Record Check and a Child Welfare Intervention Check upon acceptance of volunteer position
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality and respect for children and families at all times
